Enrolment Policy

This Enrolment Policy was written based on, and supported by the Enrolment Policy for schools within the Archdiocese of Sydney(1998). A copy of this document is available for your perusal from the school Principal.

1.All duly completed applications for enrolment received before the official closing date shall be treated equally.

2.An application indicating that a student has ‘special educational needs’* will be referred to the Regional Consultant, who will assess whether or not the school can provide the facilities, resources and suitable trained personnel to support the educational needs of the applicant.

3.The implementation of the School Enrolment Policy shall be the responsibility of the Enrolment Committee.

4.Children from all families who are prepared to support Catholic ideals and principals may be considered eligible for enrolment. Priority in enrolment is given in the following order, except in special circumstances (see 7).

- Children of Catholic families**, such families being actively involved in the parish community on which the school depends;
- Children of Catholic families residing within the parish on which the school depends;
- Children of Catholic families residing in other parishes****, such families being actively involved in their home parish;
- Children of families affiliated to churches in communion with the Roman Catholic Church who, for reasons deemed sufficient, seek enrolment in the school;
- Children of families residing in other parishes;
- Children of Orthodox or other Christian families;
- Children of families with other religious convictions.

5.Catholic students shall make up approximately 90% of the enrolment of the school.

6.The minimum age for enrolment in the first year of  Primary school is determined by the Executive Director of Schools and such students must have their fifth birthday by 31 July of the year of enrolment.

7.Special consideration may by given to individual cases for the following reasons:- Parent’s intentions with regard to their own and their children’s search for ‘education in the faith’- Family situations necessitating a pastoral approach or requiring the exercise of compassion:- The enrolment of siblings of children already attending the school:- Family circumstances regarding mobility.

8.After consideration of all relevant, available data the Enrolment Committee may consider that this school cannot meet the current educational needs of a child. In this case, in the best interests of all, no offer of enrolment will be made at this time.

9.Confirmation of enrolment from Kindergarten to Year 6 is subject to:- Parents’ continued support of school policies and participation in the community life of the school:- The school’s continued ability to serve the child’s needs;- The child’s cooperation in the educational program and response to the Pastoral Care Policy of the school.

10.The Procedure for Enrolment is detailed (over) and is followed in all cases. Acceptance of a child at this school does not ensure continuation at any other Systemic Catholic School.

NOTES
* A student may be deemed as having ‘special educational needs’ if, in endeavouring to offer the student equitable access to educational opportunities, modifications need to be made to curricula, assessment procedures, school premises or modes of course delivery, or if the provision of special equipment or suitably qualified staff is required.
** Catholic families’ are deemed as families in which at least one parent is a Catholic or in which the children have been baptised Catholics. This presupposes that there will be no discrimination against Catholic children of marriages of mixed faiths, or single supporting parent families, and presents a challenge to schools to take into account the particular needs of such children. It is required that the Catholic parent provide a Baptismal certificate.
*** Relevant, available data includes: parent interview, pre-school consultation and other information sought by the Enrolment Committee.
**** Families residing in other parishes but who worship in the school parish must provide a letter from the Parish Priest stating the school parish is the regular place of worship.
